Mission, Vision, Values

Why the National Flounder Association?

The National Flounder Association (NFA) exists to protect, promote, and strengthen the future of flounder fishing—not just the fish, but the people and communities connected to it.

Flounder fishing has deep cultural, recreational, and economic value along our coasts. From weekend anglers to professional guides, and from conservation scientists to coastal communities, flounder connect us all. The NFA was created to bring these voices together under one purpose:

to celebrate flounder, support fishermen and guides, and promote responsible conservation that ensures the resource thrives for generations to come.

We believe anglers should be recognized not only for what they catch, but for the good they do—in their communities, on the water, and for the future of the fishery.

How Does the NFA Promote Its Mission?

How We Ask Flounder Fishermen to Be a Cause for Good

We invite everyday flounder fishermen to step forward as positive forces in their local communities. Through membership, participation, and example, anglers become part of a larger story—one that values stewardship, generosity, and integrity.

The NFA encourages fishermen to:

  • Fish responsibly and ethically

  • Respect regulations and the resource

  • Share knowledge and mentor others

  • Support conservation‑minded efforts in their area

By doing so, fishermen aren’t just anglers—they are ambassadors for the sport and protectors of its future.

How We Ask Flounder Fishing Guides to Lead by Example

Professional flounder fishing guides are often the most visible representatives of the industry. The NFA asks guides to serve as leaders, educators, and ambassadors who model best practices on and off the water.

We promote guides who:

  • Educate clients on flounder behavior, handling, and conservation

  • Demonstrate ethical harvest and respect for regulations

  • Advocate for sustainable fisheries

  • Give back through mentorship, outreach, and community involvement

Guides who lead with integrity help shape public perception and ensure that flounder fishing remains respected, sustainable, and accessible.

How We Work With Conservation Experts and Agencies

Strong fisheries require strong science and cooperation. The NFA supports collaboration with conservation experts, researchers, and regulatory agencies to help build a healthier, more resilient flounder resource.

We aim to:

  • Support science‑based management

  • Encourage open dialogue between anglers and agencies

  • Share angler‑driven observations and data when possible

  • Promote conservation efforts that balance access with sustainability

Our role is not to oppose regulation, but to help create informed, cooperative solutions that benefit both the fish and the fishing community.
