A Personal Welcome

A Message from the Director

Welcome  As we look toward the horizon of flounder angling, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. Our mission is not merely to fish, but to ensure that the flounder—a shared national resource—thrives for generations to come. As an animal welfare advocate and financial coach, I hope to help our association, members, guides and sponsors to thrive and prosper.  While also leading conservation and responsible practices in partnership with state fish and wildlife agencies and other organizations. I invite you to join me.

Director Kenne Smith

Vision & Financial Stewardship

The National Flounder Association (NFA) is a not‑for‑profit organization dedicated to supporting flounder anglers while advancing conservation awareness, education, and responsible fishing practices. The Association exists to strengthen the flounder fishery for current and future generations through ethical stewardship, community engagement, and conservation advocacy.

Funds raised by the NFA are managed with transparency, fiscal responsibility, and a clear commitment to mission impact. All revenue supports conservation initiatives, member engagement, and the sustainable growth of the organization. Financial allocations are structured as follows:

  • 40% of funds generated are reinvested directly back into the membership through random award drawings, tournament payouts, member perks, and other Association benefits.

  • 50% of funds generated support marketing efforts, event development, educational outreach, and long‑term organizational growth.

  • 10% of gross funds raised are donated to the Pet Endowment Trust, extending the Association’s commitment to broader conservation and charitable impact.

The National Flounder Association operates as a volunteer‑led organization. No administrative staff, Directors, or Board Members receive compensation for their service. All leadership roles are fulfilled without financial remuneration to ensure that maximum resources are directed toward conservation, members, and mission‑driven initiatives.

A Shared Heritage

We recognize flounder fishing not just as a pastime, but as a national treasure. Our vision is rooted in honoring the traditions that have connected generations of anglers to our coastal waters.

Ethical Stewardship

As stewards of the fishery, we believe it is our collective duty to protect this resource. We champion science-based management and ethical practices to ensure the health of our fluke and flounder populations.

Our Resilient Future

The NFA is committed to a long-term vision where every angler, from novice to guide, contributes to a sustainable future. Together, we secure the legacy of flounder fishing for years to come.

CONSERVATION FIRST

Science-Based Stewardship

At the National Flounder Association, we believe that flounder fishing is more than a sport; it is a shared national resource that demands our utmost respect. Our commitment to the fishery is rooted in science-based management and the promotion of ethical fishing practices. We empower guides and anglers to act as primary stewards, ensuring that catch-and-release techniques and population monitoring are conducted with the highest standards. By integrating modern marine biology with generational angling wisdom, we protect these vital populations for those who will follow in our wake.

Become a Steward of Our Waters

The future of flounder fishing rests in our hands. Join the National Flounder Association today to champion science-based management and protect this vital national resource for generations to come.
